We all know that using paid ads can drive more traffic to your website, but what if you are just starting out and don’t have much of an advertising budget? What can you do now that can drive more traffic on your website? Here are three ways that you can increase your traffic for free.

Get Social

We all know that social media channels are a great way to connect with your audience, but if used correctly, they can also be a great source of website traffic. Twitter is a great medium for this because you can post short enticing tweets that leave your readers wanting more and clicking through to your website to get the full story.  Facebook is another great social media platform, but a common mistake is including too much information in your Facebook post. Your goal is to have users click through, so your post needs motivate your target audience to visit your website. Headlines are the most important part of the post you write. A lot of people use a question that may be on the minds of their readers, or a relevant topic that readers may want more information on. Keep your goal in mind and before clicking that ‘post’ button ask yourself, would this make me want to visit someone’s website?

Content Marketing

Content marketing is creating content such as blog posts and articles that appeal to the interests of your target audience. It is a great way to attract and retain new customers. Most small business owners can do this by adding a blog to their website. Creating and sharing posts relevant to your industry can help widen your audience. We talked about this a bit earlier, when you share this content on social media, make sure you just include the title or a tempting question that will encourage readers to click through to your website to see the full article. Remember the goal of these strategies is to get users to your website.

Another great way to get content on your website, is to invite guest authors to post on your website. If there is a person in your industry that you think your readers would like to hear from, ask if they would be willing to write or share a blog post on your website. You can also offer to write for a website that would appeal to your audience. It opens your organization up to new audiences, and also further establishes you as a thought leader in your industry.

Check the comment section daily and promptly respond to all comments. This builds a sense of community and shows that you’re an active member of your business and industry. You should also visit and comment on other blogs in your industry. If you see an article that you feel you can contribute some meaningful insight to, comment and have your website URL in your signature. You don’t want to ‘spam’ websites with your information. Only comment when you have information you feel will enrich the conversation. You want to be seen as a professional member of your industry.
